Daily Word January 29, 2011 - "Psalm 4:7"

Psalm 4:7
"You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound."
I wonder this morning, what is the joy of your life?  Family?  Children?  Spouse?  Occupation?  Money?  Possessions?  All of these things are good in themselves.  Obviously, there is little joy that compares to the love of a beautiful spouse, wonderful children, and a supportive family.  For men, it is easy for us to find our fulfillment in our occupations, it is what we do.  And money, it is not ungodly or unspiritual to enjoy money.  The root of evil is the love of money that is displayed so prevalently in the American society.  In fact, this love and pursuit of money has led to social injustice, the destruction of families and churches, and many other things.  But the psalmist says that he found more joy in His God than others had found in their riches.  You see, only God can provide satisfaction and fulfillment.  As long as we pursue the things of this world, we will always find ourselves void of fulfillment.  But when we find the steadfast love of the Savior Jesus Christ, words in the English language cannot express the joy and contentment found in Him.
