January 31, Daily Word - "Psalm 5:11-12"

Psalm 5:11-12
"But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.  For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield."
Marvelous words from the psalmist point to the object and reason for joy.  His joy was found in his safety, "let all who take refuge".  Those who have found safety in the Lord find that joy is a natural outcome of their faith, because where one finds security, real intimacy exists.  He asks God to spread the protection and favor over him.  It is a picture, in my opinion, of the robe of righteousness.  Each believer is covered in the perfect obedience of Christ and in that cloak, one finds reason for celebration.   The object of the psalmist joy was the name of the Lord.  What's in a name?  A name represents who a person is, it is their very nature.  The psalmist rejoiced in the nature of God.  Today, celebrate and be joyful because God is God.  Because of His enduring love and faithfulness, because of His holiness, because of His righteousness; we have reason to rejoice.  What the object of your joy?
