Daily Word February 10, 2011 - "Psalm 12:1"

Psalm 12:1
"Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man."
A frightful day the psalmist sees.  A day when God's people have disappeared.  He speaks of the loss of character in verses 2-4 and socail injustice in verse 5.  It is a daunting thought, I think, to consider what would happen if God's people became isolationists.  What happens when the church becomes ineffective or disappears from the public scene.  Our Lord prayed in John 17 for us, because we were not to be taken out of the world.  He prayed that we would be safe and secure in the refuge of God.  Because we live in a fallen world, often times the perspective is doom and gloom.  But I want you to notice where the hope is.  As the psalmist considered how terrible things had become, he wrote "I will now rise," says the Lord.  Our hope is found in God.  We don't serve a God who stands idly by as the world destroys itself.  Instead, we serve a God who is active and diligently working in the affairs of man.  I'm thankful that God is involved in the eveyday affairs going on around us.
