Daily Word March 24, 2011

As we look to revival:
"Hark to the tramping feet of doomed souls as they march to a never-ending eternity.  Can you still sleep comfortably, preacher?"
A little different word tonight.  Normally, we pick a passage of scripture, today I have contemplated on these words from Leonard Ravenhill, in his book "Revival God's Way, A Message for the Church."  They are dynamic words.  They remind us that our task is not one of triviality.  Instead, our success is not measured by the numbers in our pews on Sunday mornings, nor by the attendance at our latest fellowship event.  Our success is not measured by the right staff, programs, or meetings.  In fact, success is not measured at all - lives are the measurement.  Countless souls are breathing their first breaths in hell, mean while we sleep.  Meanwhile I sleep.  "Can you still sleep comfortably, preacher?"
Revival (and judgment) begin in the house of God.  Lord, have your way with us.  Amen.

  1. I was first introduced to Leonard Ravenhill in the early 1980s when Keith Green had created a Christian compound in East Texas and published a monthly newsletter called the "Last Days Newsletter". I loved that publication along with the guest articles by Leonard Ravenhill.

My wife and I considered driving over to visit on several occasions and then one day we heard the terrible news that Keith Green had died along with his young son in a fiery plane crash. I have always regretted that I didn't take an afternoon to drive over and visit with Keith and Melody.

But I still have fond memories and packed somewhere in a dusty box along with other important ephemera of my life is a package of Last Days Newsletters tied lovingly with string, still waiting for me to pull them out and read them again.

If you ever get the chance to listen to Keith Green's music you will hear the voice of Leonard Ravenhill exhorting Christians to a holier walk with God (Create in Me a Clean Heart)and to reach out to the lost (A Billion Starving People). Thanks for keeping the light of that message burning...

    Warmest Regards
