Daily Word May 4, 2011 - Psalm 63:1

Psalm 63:1
"O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water."
Here the psalmist gives us insight to his relationship with God.  He says that he "earnestly seeks", which speaks of an intentional behavior.  He doesn't stumble into God in the morning, but rather, he goes after God.  Then he says that his soul thirsts and faints, as in a dry and weary land.  In other words, he longs after God as one who longs after a cup of water in the middle of a famine.  We can only imagine for a moment the thirst for a relationship.  A thirst that is not satisfied with anything except that which it thirsts for.  The psalmist is saying that nothing else will do, he must have God and God alone.  I wonder today, is this a picture of your relationship with God?  A relationship that cannot be quenched by the things of this world?  A relationship that intentionally runs after its object?
