Acts 6:2
"It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables."

The apostles had a monumental task in front of them.  They were charged with taking the gospel to the ends of the earth - that's a long way.  As we read through the chapters of Acts, we see the church is growing by leaps and bounds.  It must have been difficult to keep up with everything going on.  But now the apostles are faced with a difficult decision.  They must address the growing problems, while at the same time continuing the work of ministry.  It is the same difficulty every growing church encounters.  So they gathered men together to meet the needs of the people.  The picture is clear, people were responsible for the ministry.  It is a shift from the ministry resting solely in the hands of the apostles to the hands of the people.  The apostles would preach, but the people would serve.  Our churches today, should follow this model.  Equipping and charging people with the ministry and service of the church.

Question for today: "What can I be doing to serve the local church?"
